California Law requires that all dark and/or reflective window tint meets the specified Visible Light Transmission (VLT) for your vehicle. VLT is the percentage of light allowed to pass through your car windows and varies for sedans, SUVs and vans.
Tint Darkness for Sedans, SUVs and Vans in California
Windshield tint must be non-reflective and is only allowed on the top 4 inches of the windshield. Any tint darkness can be used on the back-side windows and rear windows, but a dual-side mirror is required if your rear window is tinted. Film on the front-side windows must meet a minimum of 70% VLT (or allow 88% of light in) when combined with aftermarket film and factory-tinted windows. Medical exceptions can be made for individuals with certain conditions, making them medically exempt from these restrictions.
In addition to, restrictions on the darkness of tint, certain colors of tint (amber, blue and red) are not permitted.
Tint Reflection for Sedans, SUVs and Vans in California
The reflective tint on front side and back side windows must not be more reflective than a standard window.
To give our customers the best tinting experience possible, we carry and recommend a specific Window Film that is legal in California for the drivers and passengers front side windows. Upon installation of the film, you will receive a manufacturer’s “Certificate of Compliance” that certifies your car’s window tinting is legal in California.
